Taking care of your car also includes taking care of the internal parts. Maybe you don’t care about the internal look of the car, but it is important. Having both of the parts of the car well maintained allows your car to look great. Besides, clean car seat proves that you take care of your car.
The internal look of the car depends greatly on the seats. If the seats are not clean, no matter how much clean the car is in both inside and outside, you can’t satisfy your eyes with the looks. So, it is vital to keep the seats clean.
In most of the cars, leather seats are installed by the company. The main reason is, leather seats give the car an elegant look. If you can’t keep those clean, the premium look won’t stay for a long time. Keeping the seat clean doesn’t need too much effort. I have done it different times for my car seats and found it easy. Let me tell you how I have cleaned the leather seats in my car.
Steps to Clean the Leather Car Seats
1. Remove the dust and dirt:
This is important because if you don’t remove the large dirt particles, those will create problem in next steps. The simplest technique of doing this is using a dry clean piece of cloth to rub over the leather surface.
Instead of it, if you have any blower, you can use that to blow the dirt away. You can also use a vacuum cleaner the pull away the dirt from the seat surface. If you have any other way in your mind, you can follow that too.
2. Spray Leather Cleaner:
After removing the dirt particles from the leather surface, now it’s time for deep clean. In this step, you’ll have to take help from leather cleaner. Leather cleaner is a solution that removes the strong dirt and stain from the leather. This will help you to clean out the stains that are not easily removable.
At first, you have to choose leather cleaner. Many leather cleaners are available in the market. Just go for a small research and choose the one that goes with your requirements. At the time of selecting, you can focus on user review to know about the performance.
When you have the leather cleaner in your hand and you are ready for the second step, spray the cleaner on the leather surface of the seat. Don’t spray too much cleaner. Overusing might harm the leather cover of the seat. After spraying, you have to wait for a few minutes. Depending on the spray, you may have to wait from 3-4 minutes to 12-15 minutes. Read the instructions printed on the label of the spray to know exactly what to do to get the best result.
3. Wipe out the liquid:
After spraying, you’ll have to wait because the liquid solution needs time to break the bonds of the stains. When the waiting period is finished, it’s time to wipe out the liquid solution quickly. When you wipe out the solution, the broken parts of stain will also be wiped out with it. Thus you’ll get a clean leather surface.
For wiping out the liquid, I suggest you use a dry and clean piece of microfiber cloth. Microfiber cloth will be gentle to the leather surface. While wiping the liquid, you’ll see that the stains on the cloth.
Leather cleaner is harsh in nature as it focuses on breaking the bonds of the stains. That’s why each cleaner should be wiped out after passing a certain time of spraying. When you wipe out the solution from the leather surface, it leaves a footprint.
4. Use Leather Conditioner:
As the cleaner is harsh, it might leave the leather surface dry and rough. With a rough surface, the leather seats won’t reflect the gorgeousness properly. That’s why you have to use a leather conditioner after using leather cleaner.
Most of the conditioners are used following the same way as the cleaners-spray, wait, wipe. Conditioners contain moisture that removes the harshness of the leather surface and leave a soft and good to touch seat. Thus you can avoid harshness.
Here, you need to remember one thing- don’t apply conditioner before the leather is properly dried. Make sure that the cleaner is properly wiped out.
5. Use Leather Shiner:
If you focus on the look of the seats, you can use leather shiner. While the conditioner makes the leather soft and comfortable to sit, leather shiner adds a shine to the leather surface. As a result, the interior of the car looks perfectly perfect.
Using the shiner is very easy- spray and wipe. Also, you can spray it on the cloth and rub the cloth on the leather surface.
I don’t use shiner every time I clean the seats. For every two cleaning and conditioning, I use shiner once.
So, these are the steps of cleaning car seats. During the whole process, you have to focus on some points. These are:
a) The process of using a cleaner is not the same for all. Some cleaners should be mixed with water. Check the process of using before using.
b) Don’t leave the cleaner on the leather surface for a long time.
c) Not all the stains are removable by the cleaners. So, don’t spray again and again on a stain if it doesn’t leave. Doing this will spoil the leather.
d) Don’t use rough cloths to wipe the cleaner or conditioner away.
e) After wiping out the liquid, let the seats dry naturally.
f) Perform the cleaning process regularly. 5-6 times in a year is a good frequency. But don’t forget to perform step 1 (Remove the dust and dirt) at least twice a week.
f) Prevention is better than cure. So, try to save the leather seats from dirt and stain as much as possible.
In the way described above, I clean the seats of my car. This is not a tough process but a bit lengthy. I enjoy doing it. I hope you’ll enjoy it too. Let me know your opinion about it. Comment if you have any suggestion too.
